Holt RFC Annual Club Dinner

Holt RFC Annual Club Dinner

Jeanette Edwards5 May 2023 - 15:43

With Guest Speaker Sir Bill Beaumont

Last Friday 28th April was Holt Rugby Club’s Annual Dinner at Bridge Road and supported by a 170 strong group of members, friends and sponsors.

We were royally entertained by master of ceremonies, Roger Day and enthralled by the recollections of the life of Sir Bill Beaumont. Sir Bill, having won the Grand Slam as England Captain, then went on to chair the RFU, and now chairs World Rugby which is responsible for the running of the world cups. It was an enormous pleasure and honour to host him at Holt RFC.

Tom Jackson our 1st XV Captain gave an excellent pre-recorded speech, as he was representing the Eastern Counties against Essex on the evening. We were extremely well fed, as usual, by Johno and his catering team, with Ali and his bar team ensured glasses were never dry.

Congratulations to Ali Gibson for being awarded the Chum Preston Cup for his outstanding contribution to the club over the last 12 months in his role as Commercial Director, following on from Martyn Jackson who won the same last year. This was met with the great support and applause from everybody present.

During the evening there was an auction, with one item of 'as much beer as you can drink for a day' going for the sum of £1K! Donations were also generously made towards our Aviva Community Fund Floodlights Appeal, all our donations remember of which Aviva are live 'doubling' in value, up to the maximum value of £250 per donation. Our new total now stands at £11,590 plus £1,201 in Gift Aid - which is incredible - THANK YOU! If you haven't already donated and would like to, it is very simple - just click the link here as the Aviva fund matching is only until mid-May.

The Annual Dinner now seems to have found its newly relocated place in our diaries in April as it heralded the end of a wonderful rugby season at the club and the start of the end of season celebrations for the senior club, with the minis section last Sunday and the youth section this evening.

The event is always a great success but numbers are limited by the capacity of our club house, so I suggest next year you book your table in good time to avoid any disappointment of not being able to attend. More details to follow in due course .

Kind regards,
Rob
Chairman Holt RFC
